The video is ready!  I experienced a LOT of frustration with the first flower yo-yos I made using the Clover Flower Quick Yo-Yo Makers

beadedFlowerYoYo2sm.jpgThe included instructions were not very intuitive or easy--I felt.  Once I figured out how to make them look pretty Jeff and I put together a video showing how I make mine.  My way is not necessarily the *right* way or even the *best* way...it's just the way I do it and I like my results.  If you have a way that works better for you, please feel free to share your tips.

NOTE #1:  YouTube limits video length to 10 minutes.  That wasn't enough time to show all the steps, so there are two clips below (scroll down, they are listed one on top of the other).

NOTE #2:  You will notice my watch shows the time at about 6:00 on these clips.  That's 6:00AM...yes, in the morning.  We started this set at about 5:45AM.  We film very early to take advantage of the best quiet and least distraction.  BUT, it's still 6:00AM...wincing grin...it's an interesting exercise in trying to engage brain and voice that early in the morning.

The tweezers I use in this video are Bohin Long Handle Tweezers, available at SewThankful.  You can find the Clover Quick Yo-Yo Makers (in flower, heart and circle shapes) at SewThankful too.

If you have comments or tips to share, please click on the "comments" text link under the "title" of this blog entry. You do not need to set up an account, simply comment anonymously...it's quick & easy.

If you are a longarm quilter, you won't want to miss this YouTube video by Dawn Cavanaugh.  She shows you very quickly just how easy it is to use your longarm quilting machine to couch fibers, yarns & more on your quilts.

We're breaking new ground at SewThankful.  We finished taping our first video demo this week. This is a demonstration of Clover's Quick Circle Yo-Yo Makers.  The video features the "large" and "extra-large" size yo-yo makers but the technique is the same for all the circle yo-yo makers.

Yes...I do have plans to add demos for the Heart and Flower Yo-Yo Makers shortly. I have received lots of comments and questions about the Flowers being more difficult and I have a couple of tricks that are sure to help.

Special Note:  A "JUMBO" Circle Yo-Yo maker will be released very soon by Clover.  We will be stocking that item so be sure to watch for that new addition at Sew Thankful!

With regard to video production, we are learning as we go and there is much to learn.  A huge pile of credit is due Jeff who is patient beyond belief in handling the camera, co-production and editing.

The goal is to produce a substantial and growing library of product and technique demos.  I hope you enjoy!

Monday, 7/21/08 Add-on note -  Linda wrote to me in a private email and gave permission to share these comments here with everyone:

Just watched your video on making yo yo's.  I made  several hundred last Christmas for some gifts (Vintage Santa) that required many yo yo's.  A tip I thought I would pass on to you - since I used a coordinating thread I had a hard time ending up at the right spot.  I made a mark with a Sharpie on one of the nubs and used that for the starting and stopping.  Another thing about the finishing. I took a class from Cody Mazuran (the yo yo maven) and she showed us a way of ending IF the yo yo's are going to be flat against fabric and the back doesn't show. After drawing up the yo yo, I go straight down the center to the back and make a few back stitches stitches and a knot.  Goes very fast and doesn't matter since the back won't be seen anyway. Of course if the back is going to show, the way you show is best.

Thanks so much Linda.  Those are GREAT tips!
