Friday, June 13, 2008 was an outstanding day.

I woke up early in my hotel room at Cape May, NJ.  My only daughter was about to graduate from US Coast Guard Basic Training. To help work off some of my anxiety I took an early morning walk along the boardwalk.  It was definitely going to be a hot day.  I grabbed a quick bite to eat, took my shower & dressed up for the big event.

I arrived at the Training Center in plenty of time for the ceremony, still excited and looking forward to seeing Nat. They showed us a film which gave us a sense of what Basic Training entailed (let's just say it was no vacation).  Then we proceeded to the stands by the parade field.

Here are a few pictures:

I am so very proud of Natalie.  She has learned and accomplished so much during Basic Training.

Nat_DMunro.jpgShe has begun an adventure that is so full of possibility.  She is proud to serve our country.

Natalie is very strong, happy, excited for her future and ready.

Semper Paratus - the Coast Guard's motto....meaning always ready.

Obviously, I am/we are very happy and excited for her.

I recently took a road trip. My daughter's graduation from US Coast Guard Basic Training at Cape May, NJ was the destination.  I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet suppliers & business associates along my travels and I will include more about that in future entries.

On the way home, when I stopped for gas in Pennsylvania this lovely creature was sitting on the sidewalk in front of the station.  It was VERY large (larger than my hand...and the wings are shown retracted here).  The "fern-like" antennae were extremely impressive. LunaMoth2.jpgI grabbed my camera and immediately started snapping pictures.  Then a motorcycle guy came up to take a look.  He gently picked up the moth and took him to the adjacent field where the moth flew to safety.

At the time I did not know the name of this moth, but found it on the internet.  This is a Luna Moth.  Click here to read more about it.

Just for a smile...

This is NOT quilting or sewing related and many of you have probably already seen this but today was my first time.

At first I was a little worried, but after watching it all the way through it made me smile and chuckle heartily so I thought I'd share.

What the....DUCKS!

Well, it's always interesting and unusual around here; but last night was more unusual than usual.

Jeff went to take the dogs out last night for their last potty and there were OUT OF NOWHERE two immature ducks in our front yard.  Grabbed the camera...snap, snap, snap...and...here they are:

H-E-L-L-O...we live in the desert.  There are no ponds near us.  City Zoning does not permit folks in our area to keep ducks as pets.  The HOA certainly would not approve.

So...WHY do we have two baby ducks in our yard?  Where did they come from? Where is their mama?  A true mystery.

Well, they stayed all night.  I was shocked to see them still there in the morning.  I thought for sure the coyotes would have dined on ducky...but nope...there they were in the front yard.

Yes, there really are wild coyotes roaming around these parts...you don't leave small pets outside overnight if you want to keep them very long. Oh yeah...and all the piles of presents these pretty babies left on our front "welcome" mat!!!

So about 8 o'clock this morning a landscaper (working on a job across the street) knocks on our door.  He asks if these are our ducks..."uh no"...and asks if he can have them because he has a place in the country not too far from us.  "Uh...yeah...sure, sounds good."

LOL...never a dull moment.
