The Sandhill Cranes are here!
The Sandhill Cranes have migrated for their winter stay in New Mexico (in the Bosque areas). I snapped this picture today on the way home from running errands. This shot was taken near a field along the Bosque in the Corrales area.
The Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, south of Albuquerque (in Socorro, NM), hosts about three-quarters of the Rocky Mountain
sandhill crane population each winter, totaling up to as many as 15,000
cranes. In fact, the 20th Annual Festival of the Cranes is now underway. Click here for more info and check it out if you're in the area and have time.

Thanks Tracy for the pictures. I live across the river from you, but never tire of pictures of the bosque, and especially the ever so lovely cranes. I'm so grateful to see and hear them fly directly over my house this time of year.
Have a happy Thanksgiving.
Hello, from Erie , PA
We recently enjoyed an Alaskan Cruise and while visiting in Fairbanks we came upon a field with migrating Sandhill Cranes and lesser Canada geese. It was one of the highlights of our trip for me. We enjoy Great Blue Herons here in Erie in the summer and many other water birds.
We had just missed their 'Crane' fetival the week before with 2000+ moving through! I still was thrilled as we only about 25 ft. away from them.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Pat
